Google now ranks pages by Speed
Anyway most of the comments (including mine) to Google's blog posting were negative, and for good reason. How do you trade off page content with page loading speed. Many people mentioned Google Analytics code [tracking] or Adsense code [ads] as issues with loading time. However there were two comments I would like to bring over from two different posters [each from a different Google Blog];
"Doesn't this punish the small operator who has less control over their, usually shared, hosting? Or those in countries that have lesser infrastructure? At the same time, allowing bigger business to throw money at the speed problem and gain a better ranking?"
"With the recent court ruling with the FCC vs. Comcast speed might be tiered or throttled in the future. Is that a concern?"
Anyway it's already been said on those blogs. It's the Gmail Buzz debacle 1 month later, I just don't get it ~ as I remove Google product the rest of the night.
The attached graphic is daily stats for the engineering website for March 2010 [generated by AWSTATS]. Nice to look at, but the real reason it's here is because it was just deleted from my site ~ replaced with a link to this posting. It was a large graphic that required an additional DNS look-up [because it was located out on Google Picasa]. The next few posts will also contain one of these FAQ pics as they are moved off the site to increase the speed of those pages. The pics also get dumped from Picasa.

How to get more external page links
A page with low external pages linking in will receive a low page rank, and so will receive a lower amount of visits. So this is a list of a few pages with only one external page link, and that also has a page rank of zero [in most cases]. In most if not all cases the only external link pointing to the site would be the sitemap for this website.
Definition of Antenna Terms. ['P']
Definition of Radar Terms.
Engineering Acronyms. [He]
Dictionary of Terms.
Capacitor Terms.
VXI Board Manufacturers.
Data Highway.
And on and on it goes. I'm not sure why so many pages now have only one external link. I'll need to keep watching this issue.
So by listing a few of these pages here, they receive another incoming external link. Maybe some day they may even also receive a page rank. Of course if they do get a page rank than they may pass some of that page rank to another page that they point to.
The graphic is Visits from Denmark, so far this year [because of the Global Warming meeting].

Google Page Ranking
However in other cases the ranking remains at zero. From the April posting, which only related to the section on Equipment Manufacturers; the 'Ae' Electronic Vendors listing remains at zero months later, and I'll bet it had been there long before that. Also nothing for the 'Asq' Electronic Vendors, the 'B' Equipment Vendors, 'Cm' Equipment Manufacturers, 'Dem' Manufacturers, and the 'Fm' Component Manufacturers page. I'm sure there are many others in this section with no ranking. Note [below] that the blog posting in 6/08 was basically the same posting as 4/09.
Another section that always has a lot of no-ranked pages is the Recommendations for Derating a Transistor. For example the 2N3250 Derating Guide, the 2N4150 Derating Guide, or the 2N6691 Derating Guide all are at zero and they have been on the web for over a year.
Yet another section that always has issues with ranking are the Technical Terms section. Just to list a few; 'Tr' Definitions, the 'Rec' Terms, and 'Op' Technical Terms. There are many other pages as well, these are but a few. But as the web master I have no control over how a page gets ranked.
So I updated these pages again as they required it, but there is little else I can do. The equipment manufacturers have existed for over three years, the engineering dictionary for over two years and the Derating guidelines for over a year.......

No Google Page Ranking

So I made note of a few pages that did not seem to have a page ranking from Google. Of course this would not be the first posting on this particular topic, but some how it's back at the top of the list. Now I do realize that in some cases the page rank my take a moment to show, I don't always wait that long, but it would seem that these pages lack a page rank;
Definition of Solderless Terminals.
Manufacturers of Plastic Molds.
Equipment Caster Manufacturers.
Manufacturers that produce Equipment Leveling Products.
Definition of Alligator Clips.
Manufacturers that produce Equipment Anti-Vibration Products.
Not sure why I'm listing these few pages, there are many other pages with out a page rank from Google. Oh, I can tell because I run the Google Tool bar which shows a page rank bar.

Zero Google Page Rank for Component Vendors

There are a number of distinct sections for topics on the web site. One section just lists manufacturers or vendors in alphabetic order. Because it's a section consisting of about 100 pages, I track it.
Back in June of 2008 I posted a listing of all the pages with in the section that had a zero Google Page Rank: Page Rank and Listing of Manufacturers. Guess I'm checking again.... I really see no improvement in the component pages yet.
Page hits have fallen by 50% from Jan. 2007. But the Bounce rate as decreased by 50% as well [which is a good think]. Of course the 'A' components page gets the most hits, followed by the page that covers 'D' vendors, and so on.
Component Manufacturers with no Page Rank:
Equipment Manufacturers, Ae [A2].
Equipment Manufacturers, Amd [A4].
Equipment Manufacturers, Ap [Ap].
Equipment Manufacturers, Ar [A6].
Equipment Manufacturers, Asq [A7].
Equipment Manufacturers, Av [A8].
Equipment Manufacturers, Be [Be].
Equipment Manufacturers, Bi [B1].
Equipment Manufacturers, Bl [Bl].
Equipment Manufacturers, Br [B2].
Equipment Manufacturers, Cm [C3].
Equipment Manufacturers, Con [C4].
Equipment Manufacturers, Cp [C5].
Equipment Manufacturers, Dem [D1].
Equipment Manufacturers, E.
Equipment Manufacturers, Ec [Ec].
Equipment Manufacturers, El [E1].
Equipment Manufacturers, Em [E2].
Equipment Manufacturers, Ev [E4].
Equipment Manufacturers, Em [F1].
Equipment Manufacturers, Ga [G].
Equipment Manufacturers, Ge [Gen].
Equipment Manufacturers, Gi [G1].
I stop checking all but the main page for each letter. But I don't see any rank for any of these pages listed below.
Equipment Manufacturers, H.
Equipment Manufacturers, J.
Equipment Manufacturers, K.
Equipment Manufacturers, L.
Equipment Manufacturers, N.
Equipment Manufacturers, O.
Equipment Manufacturers, P.
Equipment Manufacturers, Q.
Equipment Manufacturers, R.
Equipment Manufacturers, S.
Equipment Manufacturers, U.
Equipment Manufacturers, V.
Equipment Manufacturers, X.
Equipment Manufacturers, Y.
Equipment Manufacturers, Z.
So many of these pages were just updated. So any bad links have been removed and replaced with just a text listing. I've also been adding text to indicate the date a company was acquired by another manufacturer. Why are these pages lacking any page ranking.
So this listing will provide yet another link to the pages that require a ranking. More external links mean a page rank? Maybe the number of links on each page are bleeding page rank, but what would be the point with out the links.
Any way, the updates over the last few months have not been picked up by any search engine yet.

External Web Linking

Here is a listing of web page addresses with only one external page link from another web site. In most cases the external link is really coming from the web site's sitemap, which is located on another server.

Adding Pages to Increase Visits

I keep track of new page additions to the web site via another blog. So far this year about 190 new pages have been added to interfacebus.com, a few other new additions to the other web sites. However many of the new pages are small in size which makes it hard to compete with similar pages with more content on the internet. Of course even if the new pages do not show well in the search engine rankings [SERPS] they still serve to support the web site.
What Page Rank a page receives is determined by the search engines, as is when a page receives a Page Rank. Page Rank and Search Engine position are both determined by the search engines, with Google bringing in the vast majority of incoming visitors.
Of course some pages just might not do well because they have little or no content;
Manufacturers of Solderless Terminals,
Manufacturers of Water Alarm Units,
Synchro definition,
Mazda Engine Control System, [New page]
Residual Current Device definition,
Manufacturers of Thermal Adhesive Compounds, [No page linking in]
Industrial Mezzanine Board Formats, [No page linking in]
Industrial Tool Manufacturers,
So those are a few of the pages that have had the fewest visits this year. In two cases it appears like there were no other pages that pointed to them, which would explain why the page received no hits.
It's a bit hard to find the low performing pages because the list is full of misspelled page addresses, which return a 404 page not found code. The list of 'Top' Content' is generated by Google Analytics and contains 18,718 line items for the year. However I only checked the top 2,500 as all the rest of the list is just misspelled page addresses. The Mazda page is 1,670 line items from the top of the list [surrounded by misspelled web addresses].
Adding new pages does not guaranty more traffic

Page Rank & Listing of Manufacturers
One of the sections of the site is a listing of Manufacturers in alphabetic order, instead of by topic. The alphabetic listing of Manufacturers spans 94 pages. The section received 1,255 pageviews in the last 30 days, and 8,205 page views this year. The alphabetic index page, which also happens to be letter 'A' receives most of the hits, and the rest are spread over the alphabet.
The section help people find companies when they might not be sure of the name, and it indicates who may have purchased the company if it changed hands. It's a lot of work keeping all the links active and valid, but it does seem to serve a purpose.
Any way, several months ago I broke up many of the pages to make them smaller, reducing the number of links per page. The new pages started with a zero page rank, which is normal, but they still have not recovered. Worse still, I checked one page today and the content didn't even show up during a search ~ meaning the page was not even indexed by Google.
Pages with a zero page rank:
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Amd'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Asq'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Be'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Bl'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Br'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Cm'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Con'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Cp'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Dem'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Ec'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'El'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Em'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Fm'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'G'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Gen'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Gl'. links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Go'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Hb'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Hj'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Il'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'In'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Int'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Intel'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Jd'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Ke'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Ki'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'L'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Mo'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Nik'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Oo'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'P'. html code updated, links checked ~ One bad link..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Po'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Ram'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Ren'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Sen'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Sig'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Sk'. html code updated, links checked ~ One bad link..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Sp'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Tb'. html code updated, links checked ~ One bad link..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Th'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Us'.
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'V'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Ve'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Vi'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Vm'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Wi'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Engineering Manufacturers starting with 'Z'. html code updated, links checked ~ no issues..
Wow, 47 pages with a Google page Rank issue ~ that's not good. But what is the problem with the pages?
I did notice that the entire section declares xhtml 'strict' coding, so I updated a few to 'transitional' coding today. The pages will validate declaring 'transitional' coding, but that can't be the issue or they would all have a zero page rank.
Any non '.com' web site link has a "rel = nofollow" in the link so even if the link were bad Goggle would ignore it. The 'rel=no follow' must be on 20% of the links, making them save regardless.
I'm running Xenu tonight to check the site for bad links, but that program will not indicate if some other site has taken over an address ~ so I'll have to hand check each link to insure the page opens to the site listed. Xenu reports 8 bad links (0.13%), with 5937 good url's.
I hand checked a few pages, see the text above, but I don't see any issues. I don't mind so much about losing the page rank, but I would like to have the data searchable. I could be missing a number of visitors because the page are in Google's supplemental listing.

Web Page Code Optimizing and SEO stuff

No new page addresses in the last few days, so I'm enhancing some of the existing pages.
Google came out with some enhanced script for their Analytics software, so I've been updating that code on the web pages. The code is a tad larger than their old code but it does more (I think). Google Analytics is used to track site visitors and provides a lot of data.
While updating that code, I also update the java script code that displaces the ads on each page. The new java scrip is only half as big as the previous code. So I save several hundreds of bytes per page with each new up-load [first post on topic; Page Optimization].
SEO Up-dates:
Images ~ I've also added several new graphic files in the last few days, mostly on the new pages, and this is why; Hits from Image Referrals.
Links ~ I'm up-dating the link text for page to page links (the underlined blue text), to insure that it's descriptive. Don't link to a new page with 'more info', use a descriptive link.
Bounce Rate ~ Trying to decrease the bounce rate as a page gets updated. When the page has a high Bounce Rate [click away to another web site], I spend the extra time to insure all possible page to page links are there, and keeping people on the site.
Back-Links ~ Increase the external links that point to the main Engineering web site [this links counts]. Note that the links associates the term 'Engineering' and 'web' to interfacebus.com. There are two ways to go here; always associate a single term with your site/page, or associate the page with a different term each time [with in a topic].
Meta-Tags ~ Back in 12/14/07 Google Sitemaps indicated that 208 pages on the site had Meta Tags that were considered short [need more descriptive text]. The current report only indicates 70 pages with a short meta description. It may be less than that, because you can't determine the date of the report or which pages were last checked.

Blogger Pages Views

Here is a chart of page views for the year. This chart does not include people that only view the news feed for the blog. That last dip in hits that lasted 2 months may indicate low page rank.
When blogger came out of Beta and I switched to the live version my page rankings went away. I do have a page rank for the main page, but anything posted before 2007 does not. So it appears that any post made during 2005 and 2006 has a zero page rank. Of course any 'one' post made in the last three months also does not have a page rank, but that's expected.
Here are a few examples:
CableCard; Oct 05/2006
AMD Processor Socket; May 12/2006
VME Bus; March 31/2006
IDE Hard Drive Bus; Dec 27/2005
Removing Standards Bodies from the PC; Dec 10/2005
DDR SSTL Interface; Nov 15/2005 ... This does have a page rank

No Page Rank

I came across a page on the site yesterday that does not yet have a Google Page Rank. The page covers RF Phase Detector Manufacturers. ~ Not very well because the page only lists one manufacturer.
Any how I always assume waiting 4 months to receive a page rank, maybe 5 if the spider is running late. The 'Last Modified' date on the page is 3/17. All the other pages in that section already have a ranking: RF Device Manufacturers.
The Phase Detector page shows up in a Google search so I know its been spidered?
Of course all the new pages added with in the last few months don't have a page rank either, but I expect that.
